In 2015, Kultour continued its successful Gatherings project with Gatherings in Adelaide (5–7 November) and Cairns (20–21 November). Initiated in 2013, the Gatherings introduced a new national model for sector development. We engaged artists, curators, presenters, producers and policymakers to discuss the state of diversity in the arts.
These laboratories have identified a range of critical issues for the sector. Whilst each location had its own specifics; access to resources, networks and presentation platforms with opportunities for collaboration have emerged as the key universal themes.
We held discussions with organisations separate from the discussions with practitioners so that we could have frank and free communication as a prelude to discussions and debates between the two. This approach succeeded in promoting rich discussion and understanding of the concerns, the potential, and the limitations of organisations and practitioners in their separate as well as joint efforts to advance cultural diversity in the arts.
